Michelle Obama Elementary School

Project Details

Design and construction of a new 53,400 SF, K-6 elementary school campus with intentionally designed flexible spaces. A welcoming bioswale entry plaza provides a safe pickup and drop-off location and defines the most public and community-oriented zone of the school, with the community room and multipurpose room directly adjacent to it.  The parent room, community room and library can easily support joint use by community organizations during nights and weekends. The multipurpose room and accompanying community kitchen can host large gatherings that engage parents and the larger community. The project also included administrative space, learning center, occupational therapy room and professional development offices, plus outdoor facilities such as an outdoor dining area, landscape, play structures, a synthetic turf field, outdoor learning areas and a garden. Local hiring requirements were achieved through extensive outreach efforts.
