Oakland Unified School District Central Kitchen and Horticulture Center
This award-winning, one-of-a-kind regional facility, was designed to feed 30,000 Oakland Unified School District students. During the pandemic, the facility was used to collect and distribute food in collaboration with the Alameda County Community Food Bank. The site also serves as an urban farm and culinary learning center for school children. Overaa provided preconstruction and construction services for the new, 43,000 SF, single story, centralized kitchen and food distribution facility. The facility includes 40,000 SF of kitchen space, 5,000 SF of administration offices, classrooms, demonstration prep spaces, administrative support spaces, and 2 acres of farming site. Construction was precast concrete tilt up, erected in two phases. Twenty-three panels were tilted in three days.
