Overaa Green Project

Richmond City Hall

Project Details

Award-winning LEED Gold design-build project involving the renovation and rehabilitation of a 70,000 SF steel-framed historic city hall and adjacent former police department into a new, seismically upgraded Essential Services Facility (ESF). Steel bracing and concrete shear walls were added, new exterior stone cladding was installed; existing historic brick cladding and MEP systems and interiors were restored; existing historic building elements were renovated; and significant building waterproofing and drainage systems were provided. Scope also included a new roof, glass and brickwork, disability access, Life/Safety work in the auditorium, and work on the plaza. Overall Life/Safety upgrades were brought to current standards. Overaa utilized a construction waste management program that diverted 50% to 75% of materials from disposal. The project was located in a congested downtown area, with adjacent occupied buildings and ongoing construction activity which required major coordination with other contractors and multiple stakeholders.
