Center Street Berkeley Parking and Retail

Project Details

New 248,000 SF double helix parking structure featuring artistic metal panels, lighting, and an art deco staircase. Scope covered demolition of the existing 440 parking space garage and replacement with the new eight-level structure that provides parking for 720 cars and 350 bicycles. Located in a congested urban area, flexible 3-lane vehicle access allows for multiple entry and exit lanes as needed. Wayfinding systems indicate exterior and interior counts of available spaces by parking level with direction proximity indicators for open parking spaces. The facility includes 4 elevators and 11,000 SF of retail space on the street level. The roof top solar array provides power to the parking garage as well as neighboring City-owned facilities. The structure includes 20 electric car charging stations and is wired for an additional 37 charging stations. The project is ParkSmart Gold Certified with Mayor Jesse Arreguin calling the facility “probably the greenest parking garage in California.”
