The California Shakespeare Theater project included demolition of 7 existing site structures and construction of a new 8,000sf, LEED Gold designed theater building. Overaa excavated the hillside at the site of the former cafe and dressing rooms to create the space for the basement-level undercroft of the new building. The new Patron and Artist Center houses the actors’ dressing rooms, green room, theater store, concessions, and ADA compliant restrooms.
Environmentally sensitive, construction of the project is a slab on grade with wood framing, structural steel support, cast in place concrete walls, and a living roof.
New site improvements include a fire suppression system, new 50,000 gal fire water tank, new transformer, paving, site concrete, landscaping and site lighting.
The upgrade of the BRUNS amphitheater is scheduled to begin in Phase 2 of the project.
