San Jose Cogen Wastewater Facility

Overaa Green Project

Project Details

Progressive design-build project that replaced aging cogeneration equipment for one of the largest wastewater treatment facilities in the western U.S. The new facility not only powers the entire San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility, but also increases capacity 27%, enhances the plant’s entire emergency system, and provides flexibility to use no natural gas—key to supporting the City’s greenhouse goals. The water treatment process was upgraded at all stages for optimal plant operation. This included new low emissions internal combustion engines, a heat recovery system, and a gas treatment system to improve operational reliability and efficiency. The new facility enables full reuse of the digester biogas to generate heat and power for plant operations. Overaa self-performed underground piping, structural concrete, process equipment installation, above ground process piping, start-up and commissioning. DBIA National Award of Merit winner.
