SJC’s ARFF Project Goes Vertical!
Our partners worked tremendously hard and overcame a few hurdles to get us to this milestone. Our design team and steel detailers worked side by side to start shop drawings after 90% contract documents were complete on this design-build project. This allowed our steel fabrication to start earlier and meet a tight turnaround time once permit drawings were in hand. In the field, our self-perform division was working efficiently to hit our schedule and make sure the two slabs were ready to receive structural steel. The City of San Jose and San Jose Airport worked closely with Overaa on some environmental mitigation concerns, and without missing a beat, the collective team was able to receive approval and add new scope to the project. We approached what could have been a large setback with a can-do attitude, and turned it into a success. Flying steel and flying planes are two things that do not always go hand in hand. Our project team received some lessons on airport operations, and worked closely to understand the client needs and requirements. With this humility, we were able to work out a steel pick plan that the Airport and FAA approved, and we were ready to go. Our steel partners met some challenging demands and showed an outstanding performance, completing all erecting and welding in a matter of just over two weeks.
