The East Bay now has its first public bike park: Dirt World, in Richmond, California. The new BMX practice track has opened on the Richmond Greenway with the help of many community organizations. Dirt World is the brainchild of Richmond residents Jasmine Malabed and Dennis “D2” Hoskins, founders of the Dope Sauce Bike Club, a grassroots program that introduces city kids to cycling of all varieties. Supported by Trust for Public Land, Rich City Rides and Action Sports Construction as well as dozens of companies, notably Title Nine, Overaa Construction, Richmond Rotary, Vallier Design Associates, and Ghilotti Brothers Inc., the park includes dirt trails and tracks for all skill levels. The facility is designed to help grow the city’s cycling culture by introducing kids to a healthy sport while providing a more hardcore riding spot for more experienced bicyclists.
