Overaa replaced the previous general contractor on the second phase of the project. Phase II consisted of preconstruction and construction services for the new, 43,000 SF, single story, centralized kitchen and food distribution facility for the entire Oakland Unified School District. The facility includes 40,000 SF of kitchen space, 5,000 SF (structural steel metal stud in-fill building) of administration offices, classrooms, demonstration prep spaces, administrative support spaces, and 2 acres of farming site.
The precast building required breaking up into two panel phases. Foundations and slab-on-grade were completed in about three months to create Casting Beds for panel formation on-site. Ten panels were titled at a time in the first phase then the next 13 panels followed. Twenty-three panels were tilted in three days.
